Whatever happened to the days when we could turn on the television and watch our favorite team without having politics infused into the game? It feels like we have lost the NFL and the NBA to political correctness. No longer is it about the performance of the athletes, but it is now all about their feelings. What happened to our sports heroes?
The NFL has been facing immense backlash from the fans who are sick and tired of seeing a group of entitled athletes complain about our country and all of the “injustices” they face on a daily basis. Fans all across the country have responded by taking to social media and burning their favorite teams’ jerseys and memorabilia. Furthermore, the NFL has been dealing with a loss in ratings and attendance. Those who still attended this past week’s games booed the teams when they knelt during the national anthem. It’s an absolute mess.
The NFL is not the only sport facing criticism. After Donald Trump uninvited Stephan Curry from attending the White House with the NBA champion Golden State Warriors, Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers stated:
U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!

LeBron James responded to Donald Trump’s tweet that rescinded Stephen Curry’s invitation to celebrate the Warriors’ championship at the White House.
James referred to Trump as a bum, defending Curry, his frequent on-court rival.
James took to Uninterrupted later Saturday, posting a video explaining his thoughts further.
“It’s basically at a point where I’m just a little frustrated, man because this guy that we’ve put in charge has tried to divide us once again. Obviously, we all know what happened with Charlottesville and the divide that caused. Now, it’s hitting home for me even more because he’s using sports as a platform to try and divide us.
“We all know how much sports brings us together, the passion it has, how much we love and care, the friendships it creates. For him to use this platform to divide us even more is not something I can stand for and not something I can be quiet about.”
Lebron James is not the only person in the NBA who put his foot in his mouth. Just yesterday, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich may have said the dumbest statement of the year by claiming: “White People Especially Should Be Made ‘Uncomfortable.”
According to The Daily Wire:
If you thought the social justice infecting the NFL was insufferable, wait until you get a look at the merry band of social justice warriors in the NBA.
Just this past Monday night, on top of NBA all-star LeBron James calling Trump voters “uneducated,” San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich checked his white privilege in the face of athletes kneeling during the National Anthem, saying that if it makes people feel uncomfortable, that’s good, especially if those people are white.
From the LGBT movement to feminism to race relations, Popovich made sure to leave no social justice movement unmentioned.
“Well, because it’s uncomfortable, and there has to be an uncomfortable element in the discourse for anything to change,” he said. “Whether it’s the LGBT movement, women’s suffrage, race, it doesn’t matter. People have to be made to feel uncomfortable, and especially white people because we’re comfortable. We still have no clue of what being born white means.”
Then he took it into serious intersectionality territory by suggesting that society has created a made-up idea of “whiteness.”
“If you read some of the recent literature, you’ll realize there really is no such thing as whiteness, but we kind of made that up. That’s not my original thought, but it’s true,” Popovich said.
He added, “Because you were born white, you have advantages that are systemically, culturally, psychologically there. And they have been built up and cemented for hundreds of years. But many people can’t look at it. It’s too difficult.”
“It can’t be something that is on their plate on a daily basis. People want to hold their position, people want the status quo, people don’t want to give that up. And until it’s given up, it’s not going to be fixed,” the coach stated.
Another coach that clearly wishes to alienate his audience further from supporting his team.
It would be wise for professional sports to stick to what they do best, and that is playing sports. We don’t turn on the tv or attend sporting events to be lectured about politics. It is getting out of hand, and sooner or later there won’t be any fans left. What possesses these people to say such stupid things? Do they come up with it all on their own or are they pressured into saying it? Either way, it’s time to stop and get back to sports.
