Syrian-Born Mayor Drops STUNNER About Sanctuary Cities

Liberals across America continue to freak out over President Trump’s migrant ban, asserting that the policy was contrived out of racism and bigotry. But now, one unlikely person is speaking up in defense of our president, and what he has to say is sending shockwaves across the nation.

The mayor of the town of Montvale, New Jersey, Michael Ghassali, is taking a stand or President Trump and federal law. This comes as a shock due to the fact that this particular Mayor is a Syrian-born refugee himself. Mayor Ghassali has some strong words for his town, and the country as a whole.

According to the Conservative Post:

“I will not be signing any executive orders that will ask our employees to defy federal laws. A mayor should not be advocating the defiance of federal laws.”

Dozens of cities and counties around the country are declaring their territories as “sanctuaries” for illegal immigrants. This is a bold stand, one in direct defiance of federal law and recent executive orders signed by the president. These state officials are making widespread decisions for everyone under their jurisdiction. Citizens are being placed in the position of choosing their local government over the federal one. If you reside in a sanctuary city and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) comes knocking at your door, you will have to decide between maintaining sanctuary status and cooperating with ICE; choose wisely.

The opening quote was from the mayor of the town of Montvale, New Jersey, Michael Ghassali. While he is certainly not the only one deciding to follow federal law, Mayor Ghassali is slightly unique. He and his family are Syrian immigrants. The fled Aleppo in 1980, shortly before the Siege of Aleppo left hundreds dead. Ghassali’s statement on Facebook last week puts him in the midst of a contentious situation. There are many who believe strongly that we should open the doors to refugees and illegal immigrants and that they should be protected once they are here; even from our own government.

“No one should be threatened because we are not a Sanctuary city. But if a rapist is caught and he is here illegally, you wouldn’t want him living next to you. I have an issue with Mayors declaring decisions against federal laws. What’s to stop a Mayor from declaring drugs are legal in their towns if they can just sign any order they wish. As for our town’s residents who fear repercussions, I will personally visit with them and put them at ease.”

Ghassali walks a fine line between human emotion and duty; “I know exactly what they go through, but it’s not my job to say ‘look you can come to my town, it’s a sanctuary city for you.’ My whole network is either a refugee or has a family or friend who is a refugee. I feel it. It is very personal.”

It is time that the leaders of these so called Sanctuary Cities get it together and realize the damage they are doing not only to the unity of this nation but to the people that are of this country. President Trump’s travel ban is no more heinous that the last 4 presidents travel bans that literally called for the same exact actions. The only difference is that President Trump is following through on his word.
