The left’s experiments in cultural diversity have once again drawn attention, this time on an international scale. On July 15 2017, Officer Mohamed Noor, a Somali Muslim immigrant, who was the talk of the town when he joined the Minneapolis Police force, has allegedly been involved in the fatal shooting of Justine Ruszczyk, a 40-year-old corporate professional from Australia, who was soon to be married. The motive for the shooting is unclear. The details which have emerged from this tragedy bring into question what possible motive Officer Noor might have had for using lethal force. What is known so far is that Justine Ruszczyk had called police about a disturbance which she felt might have been some sort of sexual assault. When police responded at approximately 11:30 p.m., Ms. Ruszczyk approached the police car from the driver’s side, and at some point this is when Officer Mohamed Noor, sitting in the passenger seat, reached across and allegedly fired the fatal shot. Neither Officer Noor nor his partner had their body cameras on, and no weapon possibly belonging to Ms. Ruszczyk was found at the scene.
Officer Noor issued a statement via his attorney, Tom Plunkett, which reads in part, “Officer Noor extends his condolences to the family and anyone else who has been touched by this event. He takes their loss seriously and keeps them in his daily thoughts and prayers.” Officer Noor came to the United States of America as a child, and seems to be well known and liked in the community where he serves, despite having several complaints filed against him. Disturbingly, some in the surrounding community and on social media seem to be more concerned with ‘backlash’ and ‘Islamophobia’ than the fact that an innocent woman was killed.
It is not clear if the motive for the shooting was religiously motivated, however, this incident is a prime example of what can happen when the left implements their social justice, so as to be politically correct and nice, despite the possible consequences. Officer Noor’s training records have not been made public but it wouldn’t be a shock if he was not trained properly, and/or was socially promoted so the Mayor of Minneapolis could point and say, “See we are not racist. We have a Somali Muslim on the police force.” Social promotion has and always will be a cornerstone of the left’s mantra. This policy of inclusion despite the results this inclusion yields is seen in grade schools, universities, and the workplace.
Police shootings are always a complicated matter, and there are always two sides to the story. What was so alarming to Officer Noor that he felt threatened by Justine Ruszczyk? According to most police training protocol, Officer Trainees are taught how to identify, assess, and take action in a number of high-stress situations. In this particular instance, it seems that Officer Noor might have made a fatal error in judgment.
The Medical Examiner of Hennepin County has released an autopsy report which has ruled the death of Justine Ruszczyk a homicide, the cause of which was a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. It is not known if Officer Noor attempted to render aid after the shooting, and the big question of why the Officers’ body cameras were off has yet to be answered. Ms. Ruszczyk’s fiancé stated to the press, “Sadly, her family and I have been provided with almost no additional information from law enforcement regarding what happened after police arrived.”
The Mayor of Minneapolis, Betsy Hodges has yet to release an official statement about this officer involved shooting, likely because she was bragging about Officer Noor and his social appointment to the Minneapolis Police Department. In 2016, Mayor Hodges posted on Facebook saying, “I want to take a moment to recognize Officer Mohamed Noor, the newest Somali officer in the Minneapolis Police Department. Officer Noor has been assigned to the 5th Precinct, where his arrival has been highly celebrated, particularly by the Somali community in and around Karmel Mall.” Why does he have to be a Somali Officer? Why can’t he just be a Police Officer? This Facebook post is revealing as to how leftists think. Everything has to have a label and a designation, and everyone has to be special.
